Vancouver's first Alternative Pride Festival is a grass-roots festival highlighting Vancouver's alternative culture. We are a decentralized, multi-venue, music and arts festival taking place over four days during Vancouver Pride Week. Our mission is to present to the public alternative art, alternative venues, and alternative vibes.
Alternative Pride Festival takes place at non-traditional venues throughout the city in collaboration with dozens of local artists and underground events. We seek to foster safe spaces outside of the traditional night clubs while offering the public new options and alternatives. Additionally, we seek to create spaces that challenge mainstream notions of sexuality, gender identity, and self expression.
Alternative Pride Festival has a commitment to artistic autonomy and compensation. We believe artists, performers, and staff should be compensated fairly for their talents. We believe artists should retain creative and artistic autonomy of their ideas and intellectual capital. We seek to create and promote a socio-economic climate that will advance artistic opportunities in the production of alternative art amoung artists in Vancouver.
Alternative Pride Festival has a commitment to accessibility. With every event, we have reserved some admission for members of our community with financial barriers this pride season. We have an application process for subsidized entry to each event. If you are unable to afford Pride this year, please message Vancouver Art and Leisure via Facebook before July 20. Please let us know which events you would like to apply for and we will try to find a way for you to be included.
We would like to acknowledge that this festival takes place on unceded Coast Salish Territory.
